Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology was established in 1989 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, as a tribute to the revered saint Sant Longowal. The institute was formally inaugurated on December 20, 1991, and has since emerged as a prominent center for higher education and technical training.

Furthermore, the institute has initiated Ph.D. programs, achieving the status of a Deemed to be University.
