In response to societal needs, the institute aims to:

Influence the technical practices of governmental and non-governmental organizations through our undergraduate and postgraduate programs, training corporate executives, and engaging in consultancy and research. Our research initiatives focus on developing technical systems tailored to the Indian context, particularly in the Northeastern region.
Transfer technical knowledge from the institute to entrepreneurs, facilitating effective growth for the economic development of the region and the nation.
Enhance the effectiveness of technical education through innovative systems and devise mechanisms to apply research findings to solve industry-related challenges.

Education System

The National Institute of Technology Agartala currently offers eight undergraduate programs and several postgraduate courses, along with post-doctoral fellowships. The institute operates autonomously under the NIT Act passed by the Parliament.

Recently, we have implemented a new curriculum modeled after the IIT system, which includes a greater number of elective subjects to provide flexibility. The evaluation system has transitioned from a traditional marks-based approach to a credit-based system, aligning with global evaluation methods.

Our education system emphasizes industrial training and project work, encouraging students to engage in various activities for social development through initiatives like the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC)

1. Application: Prospective students can apply online via the official NIT Agartala website. The application portal is optimized for Mozilla Firefox to ensure smooth accessibility.

2. Entrance Exams: Applicants must register for and complete the entrance exam relevant to their chosen program. Accepted entrance exams include:

JEE Main for undergraduate engineering programs,
GATE for postgraduate engineering,
NIMCET for MCA,
CAT, MAT, and CMAT for MBA admissions.

3. Selection: Candidates shortlisted based on entrance exam scores will be invited to participate in a personal interview and counseling session.

4. Final Admission: Upon successful document verification and fee payment, selected candidates secure their admission to NIT Agartala.
