History

The Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIM Shillong or IIM-S) stands as a prominent public and fully autonomous management institute situated in the picturesque city of Shillong, Meghalaya, India. Established in the year 2007, it holds the distinction of being the seventh Indian Institute of Management to be established in the country.

Proposal and Approval (June 2004): The proposal to establish an Indian Institute of Management in the Northeastern region of India gained unanimous approval in June 2004. This decision was made during a review meeting attended by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development and the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern states. Shillong was chosen as the permanent location for the institute following consultations between the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER) and the Chief Ministers of the states.
Foundation Stone Laying (1 December 2007): The foundation stone for the institute was laid by Shri. Arjun Singh, the Union Minister of Human Resource Development at that time. This event marked the physical beginning of the institute's construction.
Inauguration of First Batch (4 July 2008): The first batch of students for the Post-Graduate Programme at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, was formally inaugurated by Dr. Donkupar Roy, who served as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
Campus Location: Initially, the institute was set up at the Mayurbhanj Palace, the summer retreat of the Mayurbhanj Kings of Odisha. The Meghalaya government renovated this palace to serve as the temporary campus. Additionally, a permanent campus was under development at Umsawli.
Leadership: The first chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, was Shri. Rathindra Nath Dutta. The first director of the institute was Prof. Ashoke K. Dutta.

ADMISSION PROCESS
