History:

Founded in 1996 through a collaborative effort by the Government of India and the State Government of Kerala, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) embarked on its journey with the inauguration of its first batch of 42 students in 1997. Initially housed at the temporary campus of the National Institute of Technology Calicut, IIM Kozhikode marked a significant milestone in 2003 with the inauguration of its hill-top campus by the then President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam.

In 2000, the vision for a permanent campus took shape, and the esteemed architect Joseph Stein, known for his work on the India Habitat Centre in Delhi, along with Stein Mani Chowla Architects, began the design and construction. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in IIM Kozhikode's legacy.

Academic Innovations:

In 2001–02, IIM Kozhikode introduced Interactive Learning, a pioneering hybrid model management education program designed for working executives. This unique approach, blending intense and rigorous learning, positioned IIM Kozhikode as the first institute in Asia to offer such a program. Over the years, the program has evolved into a year-long Executive Management Education Program, boasting 850+ class contact hours, equivalent to the PGP-BL one-year model.

The institute also introduced the Management Development Programme in the same year, broadening its offerings to cater to diverse educational needs. In 2007, IIM Kozhikode expanded its academic portfolio with the initiation of the doctoral program, Fellow Program in Management (FPM), later renamed the PhD Program.

The institute took proactive steps to enhance gender diversity by increasing the intake of women in the PGP course to 30% from the batch of 2010–12, contributing to the broader goal of empowering women in management roles in India.

Global Collaborations:

In 2010, IIM Kozhikode signed a memorandum of understanding with Yale University, establishing a Center of Excellence for Academic Leadership as part of the Singh-Obama Knowledge Initiative.

Campus Development:

The main campus, situated in Kunnamangalam, a suburban area of Kozhikode, Kerala, offers a picturesque setting spread across two hills of the Western Ghats. The campus, set up over 111 acres of land, includes classrooms, residential facilities, and 17 hostels accommodating around 900 students. Rainwater harvesting is a sustainable practice adopted as the primary source of water. Recent additions include Hostel P and Hostel Q, operational since the academic year 2018, and Hostel N, operational from 2019.

AMBA ACCREDITATION

The PGP & EPGP of IIM Kozhikode have been accredited by the UK based Association of MBAs (AMBA) in 2010. It was then the first IIM to be accredited by AMBA.
Re-accreditation was bagged during the years 2015 and 2020.
Currently the programmes - PGP, PGP-BL, PGP-Finance, PGP-LSM, EPGP (IL Mode) & EPGP on Kochi Campus are AMBA accredited.

EQUIS ACCREDITATION

The EQUIS Accreditation Board voted to confer EQUIS Accreditation on IIM Kozhikode on 28th September 2021.
IIMK is the fifth IIM to receive EQUIS Accreditation and only the sixth Management Institution in the country to bag the coveted accreditation.
By acquiring EQUIS accreditation, the institute joined the ‘Double Crown’ accreditation status, which is enjoyed only by a few institutions in India.
