Jamia Millia Islamia: Bridging Education with Opportunity

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is a dual-mode university that extends the boundaries of learning by offering programs through both Regular and Distance Mode education. With a rich heritage in fostering inclusive education, JMI provides a wide array of programs—from Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees to M.Phil., Ph.D., Diplomas, and Certificate courses. Committed to inclusivity, JMI caters to students from all communities, especially focusing on meeting the needs of disadvantaged sections within the Muslim community. In keeping with the legacy of its founders, JMI prioritizes affirmative action and remains dedicated to building a secular, progressive educational framework that aligns with the evolving challenges of the 21st century.

Centre for Distance and Open Learning (CDOL)

Launched in September 2002 with support from the Distance Education Council, the Centre for Distance and Open Learning (CDOL) at JMI opens doors to higher education for those unable to attend traditional, campus-based programs. The Centre offers a variety of programs, including an Urdu Proficiency Course (formerly known as the Urdu Correspondence Course) designed to teach Urdu through distance education.

The Open Learning System provides learners the flexibility to choose their place of study and receive education at their doorstep. This approach utilizes self-learning print materials supported by audio and video resources, along with face-to-face counseling and contact programs. Plans are underway to make Self Learning Materials (SLM) available online, enhancing accessibility for learners across distances.

Objectives of CDOL

The Centre for Distance and Open Learning aims to:

• Empower students to study from any location of their choice.
• Enable students to set their own pace and convenience for learning.
• Offer flexibility in subject choices across various disciplines.
• Provide Self Learning Materials in print.
• Facilitate student support through Counseling/Contact Programs, Workshops, Audio-Visual Aids, and practical experiences via Study Centres and Extension Units.

In pursuit of these objectives, JMI has established Course Development Committees to guide course structures and oversee the creation of high-quality SLMs. Through CDOL, Jamia Millia Islamia continues its mission to make education accessible, flexible, and inclusive for learners across the nation.
