SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), formerly known as SRM University, is a private, deemed-to-be university located in Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1985 as SRM Engineering College, the institution was granted deemed university status in 2002, and it was later renamed SRM University in 2006. In 2017, following the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive, the name was reverted to SRM Institute of Science and Technology.

As per Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, all these campuses are considered part of the same university. SRMIST also has three sister universities located in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, and Sikkim.
History of SRMIST
The journey of SRMIST began in 1985 with the establishment of Sri Ramaswamy Memorial (SRM) Engineering College in Kattankulathur. Over the next decade, additional SRM institutions were established, further expanding its academic offerings. In 2002, SRM Engineering College was awarded the deemed-to-be university status, officially becoming SRM Institute of Science and Technology. The university was later renamed SRM University in 2006 before returning to its original name, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, in 2017 following the UGC's instructions to drop "University" from the name.
Kattankulathur Campus (Main Campus)
